It started in a garage.

8 years old with a second hand drum set and some records, starting my musical journey. A path I still travel today. The imprint of those drumsticks, musty smell of the garage, sense of excitement and anxious joy is as real to me today as it was to my 8 year old self.

Throughout elementary and middle school music led me to meeting the best friend of my life. At long late night and weekend long band practices, and in sessions with my drum and guitar teachers. These moments and memories mapped my life throughout the highs and lows of childhood and adolescence.

Later in high school, I joined a local gigging band. A huge milestone for the nervous garage novice kid! We played backyard parties and school functions. I was over the moon with happiness. Quick flash to age 18 and my acceptance to the Aaron Colpand School of Music at Queens College to study classical percussion, jazz drumming and world music. As a student at Queens College, thanks to my teachers and mentors, I made the discovery that became the key to my life and work: Meditation.

Meditation is a foundation for my musicianship and everyday life. So interconnected, I quickly accepted music as a meditative discipline. Music focuses the mind and centers body, allowing full commitment to the present moment.

Many years hence, having toured the world, recorded on over 30 studio albums I hold one truism above all:

Music is generous. It gave me a voice, a purpose, and a holistic value and meaning to my life. It is an honor to bring that joy to my students. Unfolding the tapestry of music for themselves, now and throughout their lives.
